Description

The Great Depression was a difficult time for most Americans, and the difficulty was magnified if you were black and lived in the South. Although many of the black families around Strawberry, Mississippi are sharecroppers, the Logan family owns the land they work. Their independence allows them to help other families in need, but also draws unwanted attention from their white neighbors. In 1933 Mississippi, racist "night men" terrorize the Logans and their neighbors with acts of violence against black families. Young Cassie Logan must learn how to respond to the prejudice and injustice she experiences as she comes to realize the importance of the land to her family.

    Excellent literature guide.

Excellent literature guide. I would like to know a little more about the educational philosophy behind the recommendation to read the entire book first, as opposed to doing a few chapters at a time? Interesting as I have always had my children conduct vocabulary work first, then take note of the words as they read a couple chapters a day, followed by character and plot analyses. Just curious. Thank you so much for all your work!!

    So far I love it

So far I love it, as I have all of the Progeny Press Literature units I have used, and really ONLY use in my literature classes. Living in SE Missouri we have been quite affected by what has gone on in St. Louis with the Ferguson situation, so Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, was a perfect pick for this time and place. Great discussions, and especially with the Bible references to help guide a proper Christian discussion of what has gone on in our countries history as well as our present.

Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry

I have been consistently pleased with Progeny Press study guides, and this one is no exception. Vocabulary, comprehension, critical thinking, literary elements, and Biblical integration are all incorporated in the study guide. The chapter divisions and the summary questions tie together nicely.
