Using Progeny Press ELA guides help you save valuable time, helping you focus on your students and getting the most that literature offers.

  1. Swiss Family Robinson Study Guide: A Swiss family is on their way to a new colony when a six-day storm blows their ship off course and running it aground near an uninhabited island. The father, mother, and their four sons escape the wreckate and make it ashore, finding they are the only survivors. Salvaging what they can, the family begins to forge a solitary existence on the island, uncertain if a rescue ship will ever arrive to take them back to civilization.
Despite dangerous animals, torrential monsoons, and the loneliness of isolation, they face all their hardships with energy, ingenuity, and the belief that God is always with them.
  2. The Hiding Place Study Guide: The well-known testimony of faith of Corrie ten Boom and her sister. During WWII, the ten Boom family, as Christians, reached out to persecuted Jews who were often sentenced to death by the Nazis. They showed compassionto the refugees by providing a secret room in their home for Jewish people to hide during Nazi raids. Corrie became deeply involved in the underground effort to protect Jews in Holland during a dangerous period in world history.
Facing danger, suspense, and cruel retaliation in a Nazi concentration camp, Corrie and Betsie followed God's guidance. They grappled with tough moral questions, realizing there were no simple answers.
  3. Things Fall Apart Study Guide: Okonkwo lives with his Ibo clansmen in a Nigerian village in the late 1800s. Driven by fear of being seen as a failure like his father, he is determined to prove himself stronger, tougher, more violent, and more honorable than anyone else. He works hard at growing yams, the "man's crop," fights fiercely, bringing back his enemies' skulls, and takes two titles—signs of power and honor that involve generously giving to the community. He marries three wives and has eight children, all of whom he tries to keep under strict control.
A fiercely proud and short-tempered man, Okonkwo nears the pinnacle of leadership and power he has strived for in his village. However, he sees everything he worked for fall apart as he clashes with the new European government and religion.
  4. The Scarlet Pimpernel Study Guide: The Scarlet Pimpernel was the blueprint for the masked-avenger genre. The French Revolution is in full swing, and Paris is awash in fear and the blood of its nobility (or anyone the mobs deem a foe). However, one mysterious adventurer (some say phantom!) seems able to whisk away doomed nobles seemingly from under the very nose of the executioner—the infamous Scarlet Pimpernel.
French official Chauvelin will stop at nothing to uncover the Scarlet Pimpernel's identity. He even forces the unwilling help of Marguerite Blakeney, the French wife of England's richest and most foppish lord, Sir Percy Blakeney.
