Description

The classic Christmas story of greed, cold-heartedness, and redemption.

Ebenezer Scrooge is content with his life of work and petty self-interestor he would be if he were content with anything.  He is unfriendly to his nephew, cruel to his employee, and verbally abusive to charity collectors. On Christmas Eve, the ghost of his old partner, Jacob Marley, appears to Scrooge to warn him to change his ways. Bound in chains and tormented by his mistakes, Marley tells Scrooge that he will be visited by three Spirits.

These Spirits offer Scrooge a chance to escape the same fate as Marley, but will Scrooge listen to their lesson of redemption and reawaken to the commandment, "Love your neighbor as yourself?"

    A Christmas Carol

I was happy A Christmas Carol was available through Progeny Press. I was hoping we'd get to read it as part of our literature during high school, and completing this study guide fit nicely in the time after Thanksgiving and before Christmas. I thought the analysis questions provided some good insight on the content of this classic story. I would recommend this study guide to a friend.

    Excellent Guidebook

While a classic, I had a hard time finding good resources and study materials for A Christmas Carol. One well-known publisher was reliable, but typical, too--classroom activities were good, but not expansive. However, THIS book seems to (perhaps?) be written by a homeschooler with a Christian bent. That is perfectly suitable regardless of the school environment because the story IS, after all, based on the Christian premise of Christmas meanings and taking moral responsibility for our fellow man. The book had excellent essay / critical thinking questions, was reproducible, and well-balanced between nitty-gritty things like vocabulary and more "big picture" issues like literary analysis and tools used by the author and their effectiveness. This was purchased as an academic decathlon resource, and we came in 5th overall in the state of California! Am glad I found it!

In depth study guide a good fit for 8th grade

I purchased this downloadable/interactive study guide for my 8th grade son and daughter. The downloadable guides are great for printing off multiple copies, and a master for me. I like that I can make my purchase on the website, and instantly have my guide! And, no need to store CDs in our school closet. I like that the study has a variety of comprehension questions, multiple choice, and essays. The questions have led to many good discussions about the author, time period, and character development. I have purchased at least half a dozen study guides by Progeny Press, and have continued to be pleased with the selection of literature, price, and choice of either downloadable or CD products.

    Thorough and Customizable

This is the second Progeny Press guide that we've used with our HS kids. The questions are spot-on regarding the books but shine most in the discussions they spark. I actually had purchased a guide from a different company for this book and ended up buying this guide and using it instead. These guides are excellent! We definitely will be purchasing more from this company.
