Description

Based on the play by Oscar Wilde, this adaptation has laughter and wit in abundance. Algernon Moncrieff is a young gentleman with few cares and fewer qualms who outdoes himself in mischief. His good friend, Ernest, turns out actually to be Mr. Jack Worthing, a young country gentleman. Jack has invented Ernest - a fictional, trouble-making, younger brother - so that he has an excuse to come to London regularly to court the beautiful Gwendolen Fairfax. Resolving to stop his charade and come clean with Gwendolyn, Jack informs Algernon that his brother Ernest's time on this earth has come to an end.

Upon returning home, Jack is stunned to find Algernon already there in the guise of Ernest - and engaged to young Cecily Cardew, Jack's ward! When Gwendolyn also arrives, Jack and Algernon now have two women engaged to the same troubled brother Ernest, who does not truly exist. And then, of course, there is Aunt Augusta. As the hilarity and twists multiply, you will soon find yourself understanding "the vital importance of being Earnest."
